Bulk & Wholesale Pricing on Who’s Brew

Roasters on Who’s Brew control their own pricing, and the marketplace supports two distinct volume-pricing models: per-product Bulk pricing for larger weights with order minimums, and Wholesale Discount Profiles that aggregate weight across multiple products on a profile to unlock tier discounts automatically in the cart. A roaster may use either, both, or neither.

What is Bulk pricing?

Bulk pricing is a per-product, per-weight option a roaster sets directly on their product. The roaster picks a larger weight (for example 5 lb), a per-unit price for that weight (for example $32 per 5 lb bag), and a minimum quantity to qualify (for example a minimum of 5 bags). When a customer chooses the Bulk size and meets the minimum, the cart prices the line at the Bulk rate. There is no aggregation across products and no automatic tier — it is simply a different price for a larger weight.

What is a Wholesale Discount Profile?

A Wholesale Discount Profile is a tier discount that aggregates weight across multiple products from the same roaster. The roaster creates the profile, attaches some of their products to it, and defines tiers like “Buy 10 oz across any profile product for 10% off; 20 oz for 25% off.” As a customer adds qualifying products to the cart, the total weight on the profile accumulates. When the cart crosses a tier threshold, the discount applies automatically to every contributing line.

How Bulk and Wholesale Profiles work together

Bulk lines can optionally count toward a Wholesale Profile threshold. The decision is per typeVariant on each product, so a roaster can opt in for some variants and out for others. When Bulk counts toward Wholesale, the bulk weight aggregates the same way a retail line would. When it does not, the product page shows a small “Bulk sizes don’t count toward this profile” note under the Bulk toggle so the customer knows before adding to cart.

Stacking with bundles, coupons, and per-item discounts

By default, a Wholesale Profile discount stacks with bundle discounts, coupon codes, and per-item vendor discounts — each is applied independently against the relevant line subtotal. A roaster may flag a specific profile as non-stacking, in which case the cart shows a “Discount choice” card with both options side by side and the customer picks whichever is the better deal. The choice can be changed at any time before checkout.

How customers see this in cart and checkout

When a profile is in play, the cart shows a per-vendor progress callout (“11 oz / 20 oz — add 9 oz more to unlock 25% off”), a separate discount line in the order totals, and a per-item badge that shows which lines are contributing weight to which profile. If a vendor coupon is the better deal on a non-stacking profile, the suppress control on the Discount Choice card switches the cart over without losing the rest of the order.

For businesses sourcing across multiple roasters

Cafes, restaurants, offices, and caterers can use both pricing models to build practical programs: pair one workhorse Bulk size of a house blend with a rotating featured roast attached to a Wholesale Profile from the same roaster, build office variety packs that all sit on one profile to compound the tier discount, or stage a multi-roaster service where each roaster’s contribution is sized to hit the next profile tier. Profiles are roaster-scoped, so each roaster’s aggregation is calculated independently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is bulk pricing the same as wholesale pricing?

No. Bulk pricing is a per-product price for a larger weight with a minimum quantity. A Wholesale Discount Profile is a tier discount that aggregates weight across multiple products on the same profile. A roaster may offer one, both, or neither, and the two interact only when the roaster opts a specific Bulk variant in to count toward the profile.

How do I find products that have a Wholesale Profile?

Eligible products carry a small purple Wholesale badge on the product card. When you already have a qualifying item in your cart, the badge upgrades to Wholesale Pick on other products that share the same profile, and the first row of the browse grid pins those products so you can compound the discount more easily.

Can I stack a Wholesale Profile discount with a coupon?

By default, yes. Wholesale Profile discounts, bundle discounts, coupon codes, and per-item vendor discounts all stack independently. A roaster may flag a specific profile as non-stacking, in which case the cart shows a Discount Choice card and you pick whichever option is better.

Why does the discount change when I add or remove items from cart?

The Wholesale Profile discount is calculated from the total weight of qualifying items in your cart, not from any single item. Adding or removing weight crosses tier thresholds in either direction, so the applied tier moves up or down automatically. The cart progress callout always shows the current total and the distance to the next tier.

Do bulk orders always count toward wholesale tier discounts?

No — the roaster controls this per typeVariant on each product. When opted in, the bulk weight aggregates toward the profile threshold the same way a retail line does. When opted out, the product page shows a note under the Bulk toggle so you know the bulk size won’t count.

Does a Wholesale Profile work across roasters?

No. A profile is created and scoped to one roaster. Aggregation is calculated per (roaster, profile), so if you have eligible items from two different roasters they are evaluated independently against each roaster’s own profile tiers.
